What Do You Hate Most About the Wine World?

"Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom." – Thomas Jefferson

What Do You Hate Most About the Wine World? Alright, time to get a little real here.
What do I hate most about the wine world?
The political correctness.

You know what I mean.
Everyone tiptoeing around, afraid to say a wine is bad—or even just "not my taste."
Every bottle is supposed to be “unique,” “expressive,” “interesting.”
But let’s be honest: sometimes a wine just isn’t good.

Why It Bothers Me

Wine is supposed to be about passion, expression, and pleasure, not about following some silent code that says you must praise everything you taste.
I get it—no one wants to hurt a small producer’s feelings. And sometimes, bad wine still comes from good people trying really hard.

But when we’re too polite to tell the truth, we actually make it harder for:

  • Producers to get better

  • Consumers to find wines they’ll actually love

  • Honest conversations to happen

And if you’ve ever sat through a "polite" tasting where everyone is nodding while secretly grimacing inside… you know exactly what I’m talking about.

My Rule: Honest, But Kind

I believe in telling the truth—politely.
If I don’t like a wine, I’ll say it’s not for me.
If I think it’s flawed, I’ll explain why, with respect.

Because real respect, in my opinion, comes from treating wine—and the people who make it—seriously enough to be honest.
