Salvatore Marino

Worked in California, Puglia, and Sicily. Never liked the wines he made. Now he makes his own.

Salvatore Marino

Turi Marino is from Pachino, in the far southeast of Sicily. Most people know Pachino for the cherry tomatoes. Marko knows it for the wine, and has been to Turi's place more than once.

Before starting his own project, Turi spent years in large wineries in California, Puglia, and Sicily. He says he never liked the wines he was making in those years. But those years taught him how to work. His family had been making bulk wine for generations. Turi took that and gave it a different direction.

He now farms a few hectares of Catarratto and Nero d'Avola. The wines are warm and direct, what you would expect from the south of Sicily, but they hold their shape. He also makes his own pasta. He makes soap. His labels are stamped with his moustache. A man with a clear idea of who he is.
