Cantine Matrone
Cantine Matrone
Andrea Matrone is the winemaker behind Cantine Matrone, a small winery on the slopes of Monte Vesuvio. It's a pretty special place to grow grapes: from the vineyards, you can actually see Capri in the distance, and the volcanic soils give the wines their trademark character.
Andrea comes from a family of grape growers, but he's taken the tradition in his own direction. After spending years working in different wine regions around the world, he returned home to focus on organic farming and on the local grapes he grew up with: Caprettone, Piedirosso, Aglianico, Falanghina, and a few others.
Vesuvio is still an active volcano, though its last eruption was in 1944. Today, the area is surprisingly lush and diverse, and that mix of history and vitality shows in the wines.
Cantine Matrone is exactly that: honest, rooted in the land, and shaped by the energy of the volcano.
