Priore Mozzatta Cesanese del Piglio
A wine for the true connoisseur
Cesanese del Piglio is the king of red grapes in Lazio, and Priore Mozzatta is one of the reasons why. La Visciola is a small winery in Piglio, about an hour from Rome, making no more than 20,000 bottles a year. Mozzatta is the name of the vineyard this wine comes from. For us, it belongs in the same conversation as Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino, just with far fewer people talking about it.
Give it time once you open it. Dark fruit, olives, leather and spice on the nose, then a tannic palate held up by real freshness and a long finish. Selvaggina, braised meat or an important pasta dish. Osate: dare to be bold.
