The other day I was in Romagna, near Forlì, visiting a truly interesting winemaker, Giovanna Madonia.
By the afternoon I was exhausted. I knew I had to drive down to Piglio, south of Rome, the next day, a good four-hour drive, so I decided to split the journey in half. I looked at the map and picked a spot completely at random: Narni. I had never even heard of it before. A beautiful Umbrian hilltop town, completely off my radar until that afternoon.
I never thought this job would let me stumble into something like this every single day. Italy is an incredible country. I like travelling abroad, but two or three days is my limit before I start missing home too much. Around here, every day is a wonderful surprise.
