When I’m at home, in Lanzo Torinese, about half an hour from Torino, I like to relax, go to the mountains (the Alps are right here), hike, read, and eat at the traditional Piola of Piemonte (alas, there are fewer and fewer of them).
A piola is a simple, rustic eatery typical of Piemonte, where locals gather to enjoy hearty, traditional dishes and house wine in an unpretentious atmosphere.
I went to "Da Emiliano," where we enjoyed the typical, "humble" dishes of this area: vitello tonnato, salame, cheese, tripe, and anchovies in green sauce. The wine? Strictly house wine, served in a one-liter pitcher.
Ahhh, what a delight—better than any fancy restaurant!
