As far as I know (Marko speaking), from my research, Kazakhstan has two active wineries. One of them is Arba Wine, located a few hours' drive from Almaty, which I believe is the most beautiful city in the country. The food culture here, by the way, is growing rapidly.
This winery, which had (or still has?) an Italian winemaker, is quite famous in the country and often appears on the wine lists of the most elegant places. Kazakhstan is not a place where people drink much wine. They are far behind Europe, for example. In terms of wine consumption, I’d say they are about 20 years behind us. I say this with great respect, as I love this country—it’s just a fact. You mostly find big wine brands there.
All of this is to answer a possible question: What is Kazakh wine like, especially Arba Wine? In my opinion, it’s not really to my taste—too sweet and a bit overdone.
P.S. Visit Kazakhstan—it’s worth it!
