How and Where to Store Wine

"Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy." – (Not actually Benjamin Franklin, but still a good quote!)

Let’s be real:
Most of us don't have a dreamy underground wine cellar with stone walls and perfect conditions.
(If you do, I’m jealous. Seriously.)

I definitely don't.
I just "borrow" my friend's cellar. 😅

But whether you have a fancy setup or just a corner of your closet, there are simple ways to store wine properly and keep your bottles tasting amazing.

The Ideal Situation

In a perfect world, you’d store your wine in a real cellar that:

  • Keeps the temperature around 14°C (about 57°F)

  • Maintains about 70% humidity

  • Stays dark and still all year round

Temperature swings? Bad.
Sunlight? Really bad.
Dry air? Not great either (it can dry out the cork).

Wine is a little like a cat—it likes calm, stable environments. 🐱

If You Don't Have a Cellar (Like Me)

Don't stress. Here’s what you can do:

  • Find a cool, dark place. A closet, a basement, or even under your bed can work.

  • Keep bottles away from heaters, windows, and kitchens. Kitchens get too warm and humid.

  • Lay bottles down if they have corks. It keeps the cork moist and avoids oxidation.

  • Avoid vibrations. Constant movement (like next to a washing machine) can mess with the wine’s aging process.

In Short:
The perfect place to store wine is a proper cellar at 14°C and 70% humidity. But if you don't have one, no worries—just store your wine somewhere cool, dark, and stable. Your bottles (and future self) will thank you!
